America Counts and Reads

America Counts and Reads

About

America Counts & Reads is a federally funded tutoring program administered by the Mary Ellen Brandell Volunteer Center at Central Michigan University. The program focuses on improving children's reading skills, math skills, and confidence and encouraging children to become life-long learners. Each year hundreds of children in the community receive both one-on-one and small group tutoring through CMU's America Counts & Reads Program.

Tutors work with partnered teachers, helping Kindergarten-5th grade students. Since tutoring positions through ACR are paid positions, both professionalism and reliability from the tutors are required. All tutors must go through training and complete a successful background check before beginning work.
